Day 2 - layer on, layer off

It's a good thing I packed layers. The weather changes so frequently that I'm carrying around a sweater, raincoat, and fleece, and either putting them on or pulling them off every few minutes. But we really had another lucky day, weatherwise. It started out pouring rain, but then cleared up into a warm, sunny day. Personally, I was a bit under the weather (yup, subject change), but the first rule of travel is to POWER THROUGH.  Actually, the first rule is if you see a bathroom, use it.  Then power through.

So here are some of today's highlights:

The Elephant Room in Edinburgh, where J.K. Rowling supposedly spent many a day penning the first Harry Potter book. We grabbed a snack and soaked up the atmosphere. Everyone else had the same idea.

But the real surprise was in the restrooms. It appears that Harry Potter fans keep writing graffiti all over the bathroom walls, so the staff has given up trying to repaint them, and just leave the graffiti there for all to enjoy.

Then we hit the road. Here's our first Scottish traffic jam. Herb is managing the wrong-side-of-the-road driving swimmingly.
On all trips to Scotland, the obligatory visit to St. Andrews:

Cool ruins of the old cathedral and castle at St. Andrews. When it was still standing, the place was enormous.

This is me not wanting to move anymore.
Why, then, did we decide to climb the tower? Because it was there.

Mutant Queen Anne's lace by the old castle. Herb said it looked like a satellite antenna. Seriously, it was huge.

And finally, the reason for this side trip - the clubhouse at the Old Course. Herb has a sentimental attachment to the place.
